This role is considered remote, which means the employee will work remotely on an ongoing basis and will not have an assigned workspace at a Company designated location.

Job Summary:

This position will primarily work with reporters and talent at domestic and international sporting events to deliver game and news coverage for ESPN’s U.S. and international programming. This position will also occasionally produce individual segments and/or shows for all ESPN global platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Creates or participates in the production of news and features from sporting events, including communicating with reporters, assignment editors, and news editors regarding both content and logistical details.
  • Uses mastery of U.S. and International sports knowledge and news judgment to determine the content and themes of news stories and features for ESPN’s sports news programs.
  • Coordinates with assigned reporters or talent to research, prepare, and report on news and feature stories for all ESPN networks and platforms globally.
  • In coordination with the assigned Coordinating Producer, creates or participates in suggesting stories and events to support all ESPN platforms.
  • Utilizes provided camera and audio equipment to shoot video, interviews and reporter standups for taped or live use within coverage, and coordinates delivery of material utilizing assigned transfer methods.
  • When working with hired technical crew at a remote event, coordinates the schedule and coverage details of the field production crew assigned to produce specific news stories and features.
  • Presents coverage ideas and plans in a timely fashion to be available for show planning meetings.
  • Provides additional content to support other initiative, including, but not limited to social media.
  • Operates within the context of ESPN’s defined sports news program concepts, objectives and outcomes.
  • Participates in ensuring that the content of all assigned news stories and features adhere to all editorial and logistical concerns of all ESPN platforms.
  • Participates in ensuring that assigned news stories and features meet established creative and interpretative standards.
  • Creates and adjusts assigned news stories and features to reach the largest possible number of viewers and to increase ESPN’s market penetration, ratings and viewership and financial results.
  • Participates in ensuring that the selection of assigned news stories and features for sports news shows complies with the established Studio Production and other platform policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with news sources, athletes, leagues and conference representatives and other news makers to gather information and insight for news stories.
  • Participates in resolving issues with technical staff and outside resources related to the creation and development of content and related production issues.
  • Provides feedback to management and coaching to support the growth and development of fellow producers and reporters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both verbal and written Spanish and English
  • A minimum of 6 years of progressively complex related field or related production experience.
  • Possesses strong production skills related to sporting events, including expertise in operating prosumer-grade cameras to capture high-quality video content.
  • Has a good appreciation of popular culture, e.g., “what’s cool” and assists with defining the tastes of ESPN’s viewers.
  • Fluent in X, Facebook, YouTube and a wide variety of social media websites.
  • Has a good understanding of ESPN’s marketing and strategies.
  • Has an established knowledge of global sports and sports history.
  • Has strong knowledge of what “works” on a variety of platforms and what is realistic to accomplish in time allotted for production to meet deadlines.
  • Has good expertise to interpret and create compelling news stories and features for sports news programs; able to create and execute compelling news stories and features, from inception to execution.
  • Has working mastery of the sports production processes and the ability to research and create compelling news stories and features for ESPN’s sports news programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Is an experienced supervisor with good leadership skills
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Good script writing skills
  • Knowledge of television production and video editing in digital environments

Required Education:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelors or Master’s Degree

The hiring range for this remote position is $108,300 to $167,100 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
